Winter Wonderland

December is not exactly the most uplifting time of the year. The weather is often gloomy, time seems to slow down, the days are short, the nights long. You fold back into yourself a bit. But then the first Christmas lights appear here and there in your neighborhood. Yes, that is what you want: living towards the light together. Towards the warmest week, and Christmas. And before you know it, it is New Year's Eve and everyone looks forward with hope to what the new year will bring. Melancholy, faith, hope, and love, those are also the feelings that are addressed in Cantando’s Winter Concert. The choir and the ad hoc ‘Blizzard’ combo do not shy away from anything in it: melancholy, fire, restraint, mystery. Tentatively or fully, with swing and passion, then again poetic, or even ecstatic. Jana Arns, poet, writing teacher, a bit of a photographer, and a musician himself, keeps pace with the music in his own words.
