Time: 7:00 PM-8:00 PM / 8:00 PM-9:00 PM / 9:00 PM-10:00 PM Instructors: Mahdy Coulibaly / Misha Van De Wiel Level: Beginner / Open Level Hip Hop Choreography: 'Hip-hop' is the name for a cultural movement that originated in the late 60s and early 70s in New York (mainly in The Bronx) and is primarily known as a music style. Various elements can be found within it, namely rapping (MCing), DJing (and turntablism), B-boying (breaking), and Graffiti art . Additionally, as a fifth element, there is also Hiphop culture & knowledge . The 'Hip-hop' dance style is a social dance, also called party dance, which further developed in the 80s and early 90s in various forms when music artists started releasing songs with an accompanying dance. The style originated from and contains elements of Breaking and Funk styles and therefore did not originate in a dance studio but on the street, at block parties, and in clubs where people gathered. This dance style is inspired by the complex rhythms and the down-to-earth way of moving of African dance. In addition, elements of many other dance styles such as jazz, tap, and swing can also be found in it. These choreography classes are inspired by various street styles. The main characteristic of these styles is that they naturally originated from improvisation, also called 'freestyle'. Later, this was more "fixed" by dance studios, although the freedom in the style has always remained. Hip Hop Fusion: 'Fusion' stands for mixing diverse dance styles with each other. In addition, dancers and choreographers today draw their inspiration not only from dance styles, but also from other forms of movement such as certain martial arts or acrobatics. This style has its roots in Hip-hop, but is inspired by and contains many elements of other dance styles . As a result, there is plenty of room for your own unique twist.
