The band was founded in 2020, came onto the stage with much fanfare, and is now praised as one of the must-see acts in the heavy metal scene. Their debut album from 2024, ‘Fear Is a Funny Thing, Now Smile Like a Big Boy’, was received tastily by critics and was praised because it explored the boundaries of standard-tuned guitars while remaining catchy. RONKER does not believe in the ‘difficult second album’. They strike while the iron is hot. On their second LP ‘Respect The Hustle, I Won't Be Your Dog Forever’, the band sounds more ambitious than ever. The album, recorded live in Number Nine Studios in Ghent, is a concept album about the frustrations of ‘hustle culture’. The sound is a refined melting pot: as much David Bowie as Slayer, while maintaining the aggression, but adding big choruses and old-school songwriting. But if you take the time to really listen, you discover subtle nuances and an intriguing depth. Besides raging fire, there is also intense longing, paralyzing fear, anger, and restlessness.
