From school desks to welfare site On the site of the former bell foundry Van Aerschodt, the city built a new primary school for boys between 1899 and 1901: Municipal School no. 6. It was a design by city architect-engineer Eugène Frische (1850-1919) who also designed the fish market on the Vismarkt. Generaties Leuvenaars went to school there until the doors closed in 1984. A year later, the neighboring Heilig Hartziekenhuis took over the buildings and housed its technical services there. Today, De Hoorn gives the historic school site a new future. Just like in De Hoorn, there will be office, practice, and catering spaces, but the focus will be on health and well-being. The opening is planned for the spring of 2028.
