MA Festival: Pseudonym: 17th-century Italian sonatas

Pseudonym, the new ensemble of e.g. Gabriel Smallwood, third laureate of MA Competition 2023 for harpsichord and flutist Liane Sadler, seen last summer in Schuur Ter Doest explores Italian music from the beginning of the 17th century. The young ensemble looks at the practice of composers such as Castello, Marini and Merula where musicians were invited to play the repertoire with different instruments and in mixed consort settings. Pseudonym brings the unique and lush sound colors that arise from this back to life. With music by Marco Uccellini (1603 or 1610 – 1680), Biagio Marini (1594 – 1663), Giovanni Picchi (ca. 1571 – 1643) and others.
