Theater Antigone / Haider Al Timimi and Lucius Romeo-Fromm - Wavelength

‘The heat is on.’ Lucius and Haider dance a conversation. They don't know yet if it's going to end in a duet or a duel. Clashing opinions, misunderstandings, sensitivities, and frustrations are lurking. They enter the battle with the weapons they have: their words and the language of dance. They listen, shout, and whisper in a charged ‘pas-de-deux’. Their moderator: a synthesizer that amplifies, drowns out, or harmonizes their voices. One thing is certain: neither of them is leaving before the conversation has been conducted thoroughly. Before they have heard and felt each other's wavelength. Because it is necessary. Because today it is fucking necessary. ‘Wavelength’ is the theatrical elaboration of a real conversation between Haider Al Timimi and Lucius Romeo-Fromm about our polarized world. One ended up in Belgium from Iraq, the other from the Verenigde Staten. They shared their concerns about the world: about echo chambers, ‘cancel culture’, our place in the cosmos, and worldviews that drift so far apart that living together seems impossible. Born in Baghdad and raised in Ghent, he found his way to the performing arts through ‘breaking’ and hip-hop. As a dancer, choreographer, actor, and performer, he worked with companies such as Ballet Vlaanderen, Rosas, Union Suspecte, KVS, tg STAN, Walpurgis, and BRONKS. With TransfoCollect, Jong Gewei, and Magma, he founded platforms that encourage young artists to find their own way. Haider sees theater as a place where cultural influences come together and traditions continue to develop. After ‘De Barbaren’ (2021), ‘FEED ME PLEASE’ (2023), and ‘HAVOC’ (2023), ‘Wavelength’ is his first production at Antigone in which Haider himself is on stage. Lucius Romeo-Fromm is a performer, choreographer, and assistant director from Nashville, Tennessee. Trained in classical ballet, he explored alternative dance forms in New York and worked with numerous international artists. Since 1991, he has been active in Belgium in theater, opera, and television. Over the past ten years, he has worked with, among others, Liesbeth Gruwez (Voetvolk) and Luanda Casella. In 2024, he was nominated for the Theater Prize ‘Beste Acteur’ for his role in ‘Elektra Unbound’. Dimitri Andreas is a Belgian DJ, music producer, and multidisciplinary artist, known for his mix of techno and house. He broke through internationally with the ‘Panther EP’ and confirmed his reputation with ‘Run and Hide’. In addition, he works on stage projects such as ‘Parallel’ and ‘Schouwburgland’, where music, image, and performance come together. Stef Stessel is a scenographer, light designer, and (theater) photographer. He is a member of the theater collective de Roovers and worked as a guest lecturer at RITCS. As a freelancer, he has worked with numerous theater houses and makers all over Belgium. Stef has previously provided the scenography for Haider's productions ‘FEED ME PLEASE’ and ‘HAVOC’.
