What came first: the rhinoceros or the egg?
‘Chicken’ in French is “poulet” but “Poulenc” is a composer.
Poulenc had a big nose.
Not as big as the rhinoceros's nose but big enough to pick notes out of.
Many notes. Whole notes, half notes, hazelnuts, bird legs that are out of tune.
That's how they are, those birds. Unless they are sitting on an egg.
A rhinoceros can also be sitting with an egg.
And so the circle is complete, egg-shaped to be precise.
Just like our stage. Come look, chick, look.
Nose-picker, a musical omelet with the smell of burnt rubber.
