MA Festival: Jean Petit Ensemble & Sterre Decru

Imagine yourself in the Versailles of the 17th and 18th centuries. Bruges mezzo-soprano Sterre Decru and her Jean Petit Ensemble, last year part of the young talent program ‘Virtuoos’ of the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS, bring the French court life to Lissewege. Although grandeur played a major role in that period, the music of that time also reveals a surprising humanity and emotionality. The opéra-ballets and the tragédies lyriques tell stories about various mythical figures and their troubles. In the more intimate court arias, themes such as love and loss are sung extensively. With music by Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665 – 1729), Marin Marais (1656 – 1728), Francesco Cavalli (1602 – 1676), Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643 – 1704), Henri Desmarets (1661 – 1741) and others.
