Two top cellists, two beautiful cello concertos: lovers of the characterful instrument know where to go! De Italiaanse composer Ottorino Respighi unearthed forgotten treasures from the early music history of his country and reworked them into subtle, original compositions. Zijn Celloconcerto was never published, but cellist Giovanni Sollima is changing that with his reconstruction. He brings it to the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra in a world premiere. Composer Anna Clyne also found inspiration in examples from the past, from Haydn and Shakespeares Macbeth. Finally, William Walton composed his lyrical Cello Concerto in 1957 in the spirit of Dvořák and Schumann. Together with conductor Stephanie Childress, British cellist Laura van der Heijden makes her promising debut at the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. After the concert, you can chat in the Atrium, with a musical finale by the cellists of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. A few days before the concert, you can participate in the workshop ‘The music of tomorrow’. During this session, you will receive practical insights and tools to enjoy contemporary classical repertoire even more. More info.
