His best-known work, Ode to Quetzalcoatl (1969), has become over time a cult record, rediscovered and reissued in 2009 by the Spanish label Guerssen. Recorded following a period of withdrawal marked by a deep personal crisis and intensive LSD consumption, the album documents an experience of inner transformation and a return to faith, in an intimate and introspective mode. This autobiographical dimension contributes to its particular status in the underground folk landscape. The journey of Dave Bixby is also part of an atypical life trajectory, between spiritual commitment, communal experiences, voluntary isolation, and wandering across the United States.
