A performance of diverse plumage for loud quackers and quiet little quackers from 6 years old, very loosely based on 'The Ugly Duckling' by H.C. Andersen. Ireentje was born in a box full of beautiful ducklings. And wouldn't you know it: she is the ugly duckling in the bunch. The amount of name-calling such a little duckling gets thrown at her. Ireentje hates mirrors. She is sad, lonely, angry at the whole world (sometimes), dragging herself and trudging through the mud of existence. Alleen Miguel, the scruffy heron, can make her laugh every now and then. Will Zal Ireentje ever be accepted as she is? A performance full of mirrors, about seeing and (not) wanting to be seen. About what is beautiful and what is ugly. About group spirit, belonging, 'scapegoats' and black ducklings. About personality and learning to stand up for your own rights in an often 'miserable' existence. text: Johan De Paepe concept: Priske Dehandschutter, Jos Dom and Johan De Paepe acting: Jolijn Anthonissen, Jos Dom & Johan De Paepe music: Jos Dom costumes: Elvira Van Bavikhove lighting design: Rudy Wagemans special props: Tobias Dossogne set construction and technical: Rudy Wagemans graphics: Jef Vingerhoets
