Van Bost to Ast

Walk through the region Bost Als preparation for the Kwèìkersdag on 10/10 and the sheep walk of the regions, we want to put a few regions in the spotlight. Vissenaken has already had its turn. On July 12, it is Bost's turn. The region Bost was given the name “’t Apenland” and historically refers to the d’Haepens family who owned a lot of land in Bost in the 19th century. Schoolchildren jokingly spoke of “d’apen”, a shortening of the family name. It goes without saying that they chose the region name “Apenland”. Bost is definitely worth exploring. As the first sub-municipality of Tienen (together with Oorbeek), there is quite a bit to tell about the “struggle for independence” that was fought in 1970 with the slogan ‘Bost remains Bost’. We depart from the Sint-Odulphus Church, “the pearl” of Bost. The walk leads us to the Bost-Gallic industrial zone. From the former Gallic factory, with its more than 300 employees, the well-known paint pots were shipped worldwide. Parallel to the E 40 we dive into the Haspengouw landscape and discover, within a park with a unique tree group, the castle of Ast. This is “the place to be” to place its illustrious resident from the last century, Senator Philips, in the political and financial context of yesteryear.
