Family@TenDuinen: Workshop ‘The medieval book artist’ in collaboration with W.A.K. Koksijde
Tue, 21 Jul 2026 · 12:30
Abdijmuseum Ten Duinen, Koksijde
€5–10
Side program 'De Duinenabdij and the sea' On Tuesday, July 21, the Abbey Museum is holding a workshop about the beautiful art in the Dune Manuscripts. Do you want to step into the shoes of a medieval book artist who helped decorate beautiful and unique manuscripts? Then this is your moment to shine! None other than Isabelle Soete (Westhoek Academie Koksijde) will help families (8+) with all her tips. The goal? To obviously be able to show off your own artwork at home. We draw our inspiration on the one hand from mmmonk.be , where many Dune Manuscripts can be found digitized. And on the other hand from the theme of our expo 'De Duinenabdij and the sea' . With those examples in mind, we are going to create our own sea creature ! A devilish dragon that braves the waves of the sea? A fish with a human head? A merman with a long tail? In de Duinenhandschriften you couldn't imagine it crazy enough, or they made drawings of it. We are going to work with egg tempera . Paint made from pigments with a binder... an egg! In Europa this was widely used in painting from the 13th century onwards. Practical: On Tuesday, July 21 at 2:30 PM. Location: Abdijmuseum Ten Duinen (A. Verbouwelaan 15). Tickets: 10 euros (Adults 18+): and 5 euros (children 8+) - tickets available from June 8. Age: Families with children from 8 years old. Duration: 2 hours. This is a family activity (minimum supervision of one adult). Before or after the activity, you are welcome to visit the museum! Max. 20 participants. Thanks to Openbare Bibliotheek Brugge & Grootseminarie Brugge, where the collection of Dune Manuscripts is kept.
