Broederklooster van het Sint-Janshospitaal, Bruges
Free
A uniquely preserved complex of the Sint-Janshospitaal
Uitzonderlijk, you can visit the brother monastery of the Sint-Janshospitaal under guidance.
Expect centuries-old stairs, creaking floors, and stunning attics. Discover a little-known part of the Sint-Janshospitaal: an authentic wall of the first hospital ward, a decorated chapter house, the maze of rooms and spaces, from cellar to attic. Here and there, sculpted beam soles with coats of arms testify to a hospital past where the brothers ruled the logistics and organization until the 17th century. Unique are the sketches and drawings discovered since the 90s on the walls of a 16th-century extension.
