Bat walk with Ger Beckers

On July 11, 2026, Villa Castrum is organizing an excursion about the Plateau van Caestert under the expert guidance of Ger Beckers. We are going to look for bats using bat detectors. As is known, many bats hibernate in our caves, but in the summer they fly outside and catch many insects. Depending on the weather conditions, we hope to discover different species of bats. We start at the Steenstraat parking lot under the bridge. Ger will first explain about bats and the functioning of the bat detectors. Then we will set off. We will walk a bit through the field and through the forest. In Villa Castrum we will take a short break in the garden before we walk back down to the parking lot. In case of bad weather or too much wind, a lecture about bats will be provided in Villa Castrum instead of the excursion by Ger. Registration is necessary so that we can reach you in that case. This excursion is also suitable for children. Please remember sturdy walking shoes and possibly a flashlight.  ,
