Hommelwandeling Kooldries-Hoofsweer in Brecht

We are going in search of bumblebees. On this walk, you will get to know our fluffiest wild bees and learn a lot about their way of life and relationship with certain plants. You probably already knew that they are important pollinating insects, but had you heard of long-tongued and short-tongued bees? We will also teach you how to recognize the different species of bumblebees: the red-tailed bumblebee, common carder bee, or tree bumblebee will no longer be a mystery to you ... and who knows, we might even get to see rare species like the moss carder bee! We will explore the Kooldries-Hoofsweer nature reserve and the adjacent canal dike, a former clay extraction site located along the Kanaal Dessel-Schoten. Artificial mounds, ditches, and flanks of excavated pits, together with a diverse flora ranging from poor acidic sandy soils to those of richer soils, give the Kooldries-Hoofsweer and the surrounding area a lot of potential for bumblebees and other wild bees.
