Guided visit: Borgloon - In the footsteps of seasonal labor

Sat, 19 Sept 2026 · 14:00
Bel'Export, Voort (Tongeren-Borgloon)
€10
Seasonal labor has determined the rhythm of Borgloon for generations. During this walk, we explore how that work changed, and how it is still visible in the landscape today. In Borgloon we literally and figuratively walk through the rhythm of seasonal labor. Once it was self-evident: long days in the field, temporary work, harsh conditions. Today, agriculture looks different, but seasonal labor has not disappeared. Who does that work now? What has changed, and what has not? During this walk, we link stories from the past to places of today. We visit two fruit companies and get an insight into how seasonal workers work and live today. What does their workday look like? Where do they sleep? What does it mean to be here for a few weeks or months? Practical Departure on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 2 PM at the parking lot of Bel’Export, Neremveld 2, 3840 Tongeren-Borgloon. From there we leave either on foot or by car, depending on the weather conditions. Adapted clothing and footwear recommended. Train travelers: pick-up possible around 1:30 PM at the Sint-Truiden station (mention when registering). Je Blik Historik guide: Patrick Buffel By walking along, you save a point on your Blik Historik savings card .
