Habibi Beats, a musical collaboration of B’net Chaabi and Think of One
Habibi Beats, brings together the musicians of the collective B'net Chaabi and Think of One from their shared love for chaabi music. Rooted in rhythm, repetition, and trance, this musical project explores the collective and emotional power of chaabi, in which habibi — love — is central. Chaabi is a music genre that arises from Moroccan folk traditions.
During their residency in Rataplan, both groups let their musical worlds melt into each other. In Chaabi music often centers on women who pass on the repertoire and musical knowledge from generation to generation. B’net Chaabi brings this traditional chaabi repertoire to life and thereby forms an unexpected but exciting contrast with the rebellious sound of Think of One.
De Antwerpse band Think of One is known for their experimental and adventurous sounds. Think of One draws inspiration from diverse international influences, from Inuit throat singing and Viennese waltzes to Brazilian rhythms and gnawa and chaabi.
On the stage of Rataplan, heritage and innovation merge into an immersive musical experience full of enchanting rhythms, raw poetry, and a strong collective energy. Discover the connecting power of chaabi during this concert.
With this festive evening, we kick off the new season in Rataplan.
Prior to the concert, we will show a short film by Laïla Amezian and Hélène Sechehaye that tells more about the tradition of chaabi music as a practice in Brussels. Welcome habibi!
Habibi Beats was developed in the context of TerraNova - Reclaiming Heritage, Shaping New Sounds, with support from the Flemish government - Supra-local project subsidy.
