Luc Tooten & Consortium Meliniensis

According to annual tradition, cellist Luc Tooten once again puts together an occasional ensemble for an evening-filling classical concert in the atmospheric chapel of the Imelda Hospital. This time, the life & work of German-British composer Georg Friedrich Händel (1685 - 1759) is highlighted. Together with Johann Sebastian Bach, who was born in the same year, Händel is seen as one of the greatest composers of his time. He was the first true grandmaster of the Baroque. He was not only a brilliant composer, but also a bold entrepreneur. From his early successes in Italy, he conquered London with his spectacular operas and oratorios. Händel understood his audience like no other. He wrote royal masterpieces such as the 'Water Music', but also touched the ordinary citizen with the monumental 'Messiah'. His music, with the world-famous 'Hallelujah Chorus' as an absolute highlight, symbolizes triumph and human emotion. In this program, the special combination of oboe & strings is central. The oboe, with its warm and expressive timbre, often acts as a song-like soloist that weaves itself with the smooth accompaniment of the strings. During this chapel concert, not only the virtuosity of the musicians is expressed, but also the timeless power of a composer who knows how to touch the audience with simplicity, grandeur, and sincere emotion.
