Bellezza e Bruttezza schools and youth associations (6-12)

Sun, 14 Jun 2026
Centre for Fine Arts - Bozar, Brussels
What Makes Something Beautiful? What Makes Something Ugly? And Who Decides? During the Renaissance, artists sought to capture beauty through strict rules, yet ugliness took on a role of its own—a raw and unfiltered reflection of the real world. Artists played with these contrasts, discovering that they could not only imitate nature but also transform it—sometimes to the point of the monstrous.  In this interactive tour, children explore how artists from Italy and Northern Europe depicted beauty and ugliness during the Renaissance. They compare styles, experience contrasts in art, and unleash their own creativity among the masterpieces.  Bellezza e Bruttezza. From the Ideal to the Grotesque in the Renaissance Pupils will:  ? Discover artworks where beauty and ugliness challenge each other  ? Learn how artists followed—and broke—rules to create new forms  ? Experiment with expression and artistic choices  ? Explore their emotions and ideas through art  ? Connect art, perception, and the world around them  Look, compare, discover—and decide for yourself what beauty means to you!    We thank the Foundations for their precious support: Foundation Jean-François Peterbroeck, Candriam Institute for Sustainable Development and Fonds le Compas managed by the King Baudouin Foundation.
