Baziel is back! Guido Depraetere would have turned 80 this year. Now son Jeroen Depraetere breathes new life into the Baziel universe with a unique evening in the Stadsschouwburg Brugge, on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Baziel remains Baziel: not the smartest, sometimes clumsy, always hits the mark. The legendary Baziel jokes have become humorous heritage. The laconic object of the age-old folk joke received his own universe, with his wife Flavie, his regular pal Hector, and Baziel in his childhood years: Bazieltje. The jokes, told by Guido Depraetere, found a place in memorable TV programs like HT&D and a little later also received a face. A weekly cartoon appeared in the newspaper, and even later Guido Depraetere went on tour with the jokes and played theater shows. Exactly 20 years ago, Guido passed away. To honor that humorous legacy, Guido's son Jeroen Depraetere brings the jokes of Baziel during a unique evening in the Brugse Stadsschouwburg. Baziel is still not one of the smartest and continues to have a difficult pronunciation; the figure remains the center of mockery. That is no different today. Baziel is timeless.
