MA Festival: Nel Maertens & Ronan Kernoa: Suites by Bach

In the middle of the flower meadow ‘Sowing and Harvesting’ by visual artist Nel Maertens, Ronan Kernoa brings some suites by Bach. He brings no fewer than three instruments for this, two different violas da gamba and a cello, which he plays alternately. During the performance, you also walk around yourself in the Brugse Stadshallen that Maertens transforms live for MA Festival into a spring scene, made from a hand-scattered mixture of pigment and wheat flour. Nel Maertens lets herself be inspired this time by the history of the city of Bruges. She became fascinated by the miniatures and decorative borders in Medieval books of hours that appear in quite a few paintings by Vlaamse Primitieven. With music by J. S. Bach (1685 – 1750)
