South in motion - Excursion

Het Nieuw-South in Antwerp speaks to the imagination. An ambitious urban expansion project, from the Scheldt quays to the Konijnenwei, such as there have not often been in the Koekenstad. We move under the guidance of a guide in this new and sustainable city district between history and future. Where work, living, studying, shopping, culture, and nature merge and where a completely new neighborhood is rising over a period of 15 years. Since the demolition of the Antwerp-South freight station in 1965, the area had been deserted. The renovation in 2007 of the former freight station, now Bank J. van Breda & co, formed a first impulse for the redevelopment of the site, together with the construction of the new Palace of Justice by architect Richard Rogers in 2006. We meet at the Bolivarplaats in Antwerp and conclude the tour at the Scheldt quays, which have recently been given a whole new look.
