A hypnotic mix of modal and improvised jazz, African rhythms, and childhood melodies. The music of Macondo Trio lets you lose all sense of time and space and slowly brings your blood to a boil. What started with the meeting between the Beninese drummer Angelo Moustapha and the Belgian saxophonist Sylvain Debaisieux, grew - together with Italian bassist Federico Stocchi - into a cosmopolitan trio in which energy, groove, and freedom merge.
Their debut EP Macondo (2022) was praised for its mix of jazz with African and Arabic influences. Their new album Morayò (2025) was also enthusiastically received by both press and public during the release tour.
On the JazzLab tour, they are reinforced by pianist Wajdi Riahi, a true comet within Belgian jazz who also impressed us during his previous passage. With his Tunisian roots and poetic playing, he adds a Mediterranean glow.
