In 2026, bassist & singer-songwriter Wouter Berlaen reached the blessed age of 50. As a leap-year baby, he turned exactly 12.5 years old. At the gate of his puberty, he therefore gifted the digital long-player ‘Lui zwieet’ (Lazy sweat) on the last day of February. Officially his 6th full album, which bundles 10 Zultse translations of the man's musical heroes.
But there is more: since 2026, it has been exactly 15 years since the man shed his first name to bring his own songs in authentic Zultse dialect into the spotlight, simply as BERLAEN.
On January 31, BERLAEN will head to Cultuurcafé Berlare all by himself to perform a solo anthology from 15 years of Zultse pop songs: ‘Oe ver’est nog?’ (How far is it still?) - ‘Ge zij were zat’ (You're drunk again) - ‘Oltijd blijv’n goan’ (Always keep going) and many more earworms that the Berlaarse audience is allowed to sing along to at the top of their lungs!
