In the spring of 2016, the three boys of Horse Jumper of Love were teenagers writing songs in the basement of the parents of singer Dimitri Giannopoulos and performing in the house-show circuit of their hometown Boston. Their self-titled debut record they put on Bandcamp without great expectations.
Ten years later, 'Horse Jumper of Love' has grown into a cult classic with which the band showed that slowcore still had a future even after its peak in the nineties. By adding elements of noise, emo, shoegaze and more conventional indie rock to the sonic legacy of space, slowness and minimalism of their heroes Codeine, Karate and Duster, Horse Jumper of Love opened the door of the most introspective rock genre of the 90s for renewal.
Precisely that fresh wind you hear today in bands like Wednesday, Wishy, They Are Gutting a Body of Water, Feeble Little Horse and Shaking Hand (later at Cactus!) and makes Horse Jumper of Love seen as a link between two generations of slowcore. Horse Jumper of Love was praised in that sense by media like Pitchfork, Stereogum and NPR and closer to home DUYSTER. expressed themselves as a big fan.
In honor of the tenth anniversary of their self-titled debut, Horse Jumper of Love plays the album in its entirety live, among others at Pitchfork Festival and in a select number of clubs in Europe. In België you can go to the intimate setting of Cactus Café!
