From destruction to renewal - Sint Hadrianuskerk Handzame

The Sint-Hadrianuskerk in Handzame, from 1614, is a typical Gothic hall church with three naves, as you often find in the Westhoek. After the heavy destruction during the Eerste Wereldoorlog, the church was completely rebuilt in 1921-1922. In doing so, the original appearance was largely preserved, although the tower received a slimmer, elegant Neo-Gothic spire. Inside, the Neo-Gothic influences are even stronger. The raised vaults, the emphasis on arches and columns, and the refined decoration give the interior its characteristic Neo-Gothic character.
