A musical spectacle about the work and life of singer Nina Simone. For Nina, New Dawn, the music of Nina Simone was reworked in a modern way, with a sound between jazz, rock, and electronics. The storyline of the performance is based on several key songs and moments from Nina Simones life as an artist and her political engagement. Between the songs, fragments of interviews are brought by singer/actress Delphine Gardin. Thus, the timeless and universal music and message of Nina Simone are conveyed. To this day, Nina Simone is one of the most listened-to artists in the world. She had a major influence on performers in different music styles, from jazz to rock and pop and from classical to contemporary. Her activism is an inspiration, yet that aspect of her life, the way she sacrificed her musical dream and her fame to pursue activism, often remains underexposed to the general public. In times when inequality seems to be increasing, an ode to Nina Simone and her message is more than appropriate. Twenty years after her death, the work of Nina Simone continues to resonate powerfully, in the fight against the erosion of hard-won fundamental freedoms.
