Parallel Stories

Sylvie earns her living as a novelist. In search of inspiration for her latest work, she secretly begins to observe her neighbors across the street. To help her with her daily life, Sylvie one day hires young Adam. She has no clue about the impact he will have on her life and work. Soon, the boundaries between Sylvie's fabrications and her reality blur. Commentary After the Iraanse Revolutionaire Garde's decision to make wearing hijabs mandatory in film productions, Iranian director Asghar Farhadi decisively moved the production of his tenth feature film to Paris. It is therefore not surprising that the plot of Histoires parallèles is characterized by political undercurrents and a sharp filleting of current society, combined with a touch of Hitchcockian peeping. In the hands of character actors Vincent Cassell ( La haine ) and Isabelle Huppert ( The Piano Teacher ), the characters come to life perfectly with all their imperfections and ambiguous actions. In Cannes, the film is already competing for the Palme d'Or at the time of printing.
