Marty Supreme

The young Marty Mauser bluffs and acts arrogantly his way through life. Driven by boundless ambition, he does everything possible to realize his big dream. Modesty is foreign to him and giving up is not in his dictionary. He even sees seducing a real movie star as a real possibility. That no one takes him seriously does not stop Marty from going to the extreme and proving what he is worth. Timothée Chalamet (last year still Bob Dylan in 'A Complete Unknown') has been training intensively since 2018 (!) for the role of ping-pong player Marty Mauser - on the set of 'Dune' he had a ping-pong table to practice in between - and delivers an incomparable performance under the expert direction of Josh Safdie ('Good Time', 'Uncut Gems'). He already received De Golden Globe for Beste Acteur, and his first Oscar is meanwhile in the queue. His campaign strategy is at least one to frame: he appears everywhere in character as the foul-mouthed Marty. For studio A24, this hyper-ambitious film is in any case well on its way to becoming their most successful ever. Is Timothée Chalamet one of the greats after all? 'Marty Supreme' is a wild ride that gloriously celebrates the self-satisfied cocky guy. De Standaard ****
