De Jeruzalemkerk is owned by the non-profit organization Adornes, which is chaired by Count Henri de Limburg-Stirum. It is one of the few private churches in Belgium. This 15th-century church was built by the Adornes family, reportedly inspired by the floor plan of the church of the Heilig Graf in Jerusalem. Jacob Adornes and his brother Pieter II had been there on a pilgrimage. The cross of Jerusalem can still be seen on the tower of the Jeruzalemkerk. The interior is characterized by unique stained-glass windows, including that of Pieter II Adornes and his wife. The tomb of Anselmus Adornes and his wife, Margareta van der Banck, is also located here. Since 2014, the Adornes estate has been open to the public. The estate is managed by Count and Countess Maximilien de Limburg Stirum, the 17th generation of the family. A museum located in the former almshouses introduces the visitor to Anselmus Adornes. As a knight, diplomat, pilgrim, and businessman, he was the most prominent member of the family. There is also a Scottish Lounge on the estate, where visitors can serve themselves a drink. De Schotse atmosphere refers to the friendship between Anselmus and King James III, after Anselmus traveled to Scotland on a diplomatic mission. In the old carriage houses, now called the Pieterszalen, the family organizes a contemporary art exhibition twice a year. Belgian artists are exhibited here, and in this way, the family shows their centuries-old affinity with art.
