Based on a true and almost unbelievable story, Roofman Jeffrey Manchester follows a charming outlaw who robs fast-food restaurants via roofs. In doing so, he always manages to escape successfully. Regisseur Derek Cianfrance resolutely chooses a light-footed tone, without losing sight of the moral complexity. Channing Tatum plays Manchester with a disarming vulnerability: a man who makes wrong choices but continues to search for connection. When he finds a hiding place in a toy store and falls in love, the tension slowly creeps in. The film balances deftly between comedy and drama and asks uncomfortable questions about guilt, empathy, and the romanticization of criminals.
