Recently met someone at the market who looked at me in surprise. ‘Do you still exist?’ Had the tendency to turn around. We started talking. The man had seen me in the theater in the sixties. He had once emigrated but returned to the Netherlands to be buried in Utrecht in due time. Told him that besides the genetic luck, singing probably ensured that I can still play about one hundred and forty performances a year with heart and soul. Of course it creaks here and there and I don't jump as high as with seventy-eight years. So yes sir I am still here. And if it's up to me even longer still. Herman van VeenHerman van Veen is completely unique in his genre. Geen Nederlandse artist is so celebrated in international theaters as this Utrecht devil-artist. He plays violin, sings, composes, writes, acts, directs, paints and is the spiritual father of the world-famous duck Alfred Jodocus Kwak. He travels the world with his performances: from the Olympia in Paris, Carré in Amsterdam to Carnegie Hall in New York. Spring ‘27 he adds his beloved CC Maasmechelen to this again.
