City Cemetery On Wereldlichtjesdag, every second Sunday of December, deceased children are commemorated with a candle. Due to the different time zones, a symbolic ribbon of light is created, with which we want to offer support worldwide to parents who have lost a child. This year there is again a serene light ritual during the Consolation Evening at the City Cemetery. Parents, brothers and sisters, family, and acquaintances can go there that evening to reflect together on the loss. The evening will be musically accompanied and all those present can add a candle to the light installation. A warm drink is offered to chat afterward for those who want.
Other cemeteries
A candle is also placed on every child's grave at the other Leuven cemeteries.
The whole city
In addition, every Leuven resident can request a candle package to illuminate your street or neighborhood on Wereldlichtjesdag and to support a family in your street or neighborhood that has to miss a child. In this way, lights will burn that evening not only in the cemeteries but also in the streets of Leuven. In this way, we hope to let the ribbon of light roll out through the city, in memory of all the children we miss.
