Two people. A woman and a man. They are in the middle of life. Too old to be young anymore. Too young to accept that nothing is possible anymore and nothing has to be done anymore. They are surplace. Like in cycling: balancing with your feet on the pedals, you are in full motion but you are no longer moving forward. In Surplace make Mieke Laureys (Johnny MUS) and Danny Ronaldo (Circus Ronaldo) together take stock. Two players who have known and appreciated each other for years share their love for the small stories behind the human. Their encounter on stage is a duet of tenderness, humor, and recognition. Live music of accordion and transverse flute weaves through their play, lifts memories comfortingly, or perhaps just lights the fire again. Surplace is not a performance about being old, but about the road to it. About balancing between yesterday and tomorrow, between melancholy and appetite, between dreams and reality. About the illusion that you can plan life and mold it to your hand, and the realization that aging cannot be directed after all.
