Mohammed Khaïr-Eddine, quite a character

Mohammed Khaïr-Eddine (1941-1995) is one of the most striking and original voices of Moroccan literature of French expression. Poet, novelist and playwright, he shaped a dazzling and indocile work, where language becomes at once poetic matter, a cry of revolt and an act of freedom. His writings cross the questions of memory, identity, exile, Amazigh roots and resistance to cultural dominations. Thirty years after his passing, his work remains still too little known to the general public in Europe and particularly in Belgium. Yet, his thought and his writing resonate strongly with contemporary debates around languages, multiple identities and cultural decolonization. Brussels, a plural city and crossroads of memories, offers a particularly relevant framework to rediscover this major author. At the initiative of Mustapha Bandini, this evening pays tribute to Mohammed Khaïr-Eddine through a meeting, readings and exchanges between generations. It invites to make heard again an essential voice of Maghrebian literature, whose echo remains of astonishing topicality.
