Night of history: Björn & Thor Rzoska - shared ground

In In Gedeelde, writer and former politician Björn Rzoska tells the poignant story of Stefan and Paul, his two grandfathers. And their wives and children. One fantasized a heroic story for himself in order to be able to stay in Belgium as a Polish refugee, the other fought in one of the most gruesome SS divisions in Ukraine. A dark page that he kept silent about from his children and grandchildren. It is a small miracle that Rzoska is here at all; a mixed marriage between black and white – or rather grey – was not obvious in the early 1970s. Inspired by his successful book SHARED GROUND, Rzoska takes the audience into a war story that is still relevant. His brother and pianist Thor Rzoska plays live music. The direction is in the hands of Domien Van Der Meiren. The history of the Tweede Wereldoorlog remains an inexhaustible source. In the book and in the performance, Rzoska succeeds strikingly in showing how ordinary people experienced and helped write the grand story. Rzoska is a captivating storyteller who drags you into a global story that, however, also had an enormous impact on his family.
