Bach as an anchor point for contemporary music
‘Consciously, I am certainly an atheist, but if I look at Bach, I cannot be an atheist,’ says György Kurtág. With a thorough knowledge of and a deep reverence for his spiritual universe, Kurtág transcribed many of Bach’s works into little miniatures for two pianos. A tribute to György and Márta Kurtág, and to Bach himself, of course.
