Judith Colell - Spain, Belgium 2025 – duration: 100’
In 1943, Frankrijk de Tweede Wereldoorlog is in full swing. Buurland Spanje, meanwhile, is ruled with an iron fist by dictator Franco. De Pyreneeën form an impenetrable border between both worlds, or so it seems. Douanier Manel, as a small form of resistance, nonetheless offers a passage to Jews trying to escape the Nazi regime in France. He receives help for this from fellow villager Juliana and smuggler Jérôme (Kevin Janssens). But when their network threatens to be discovered, they realize they are in danger.
'Frontera' is based on true events and was directed by Catalan filmmaker Judith Colell. The film is a Spanish-Belgian co-production about solidarity in times of war and the price of moral courage, especially when your own life is at stake.
