On the program as the main work is ‘The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace’ by Karl Jenkins. The contemporary composer Karl Jenkins (°1944) composed this work as an indictment against all war violence. He wrote very accessible music and incorporated texts from different times and cultures, through which the work conveys a universal message. Musically, rhythmically threatening and very melodious parts alternate. The well-known fifteenth-century melody ‘L’homme armé’ frames the beginning and end parts (hence the title of the work). Opening act: 'Da Pacem Domine' by Arvo Pärt and 'For the fallen' by Eleanor Daley.
