Zondag de negenste tells the story of the brothers Horst (Josse De Pauw) and Franz (Peter Van den Begin) who see each other again after a life full of missed opportunities. Horst suffers from a lack of joy in life and Alzheimer's. Franz needs money and hopes for his brother's inheritance. Ook Andrea, Horst's great love, reappears in his life, determined to make up for her lost time. Old passions, old wounds, and a rivalry between two brothers, which goes back further than they realize, come to the surface again. Zondag de negenste is a story about the vulnerability of our memory, a story that takes place in an existing residential care center. The film gives an authentic, intimate look into the lives of people with dementia and takes you to the residents' own stories and experiences, allowing their voices to be literally heard. Door Kat Steppes approach takes fiction a step further. By incorporating existing people into the fictional story, their real story is emphasized, and vice versa. This mix creates a powerful viewing experience that deeply touches the audience. Zondag de negenste not only shows the raw reality of dementia but also shows how the power of human bonds and memories can shape our lives. The film had its world premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights Festival and won the special jury prize for Best Editing by editor Jan Van Der Weken.
