In 2026, it will be exactly 50 years since the debut single of The Sex Pistols, Anarchy in the UK, was released. Punk was born: loud, brutal, dirty, and raw, and with a raised middle finger, the group caused a true shockwave in Verenigd Koninkrijk, which was plagued by crisis and unemployment. In this film, original bassist Glen Matlock tells the story, which also immediately clarifies the major, often underestimated role he played in the band's success. With a wealth of historical footage and interviews, this film – based on the book of the same name by Matlock – tells the origin story of the band, the release of the first single, and the debut LP Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols. This album, which was immediately confronted with censorship and boycotts, is now considered one of the most important and influential albums in pop history. Glen Matlock turns out to be surprisingly gentle, miles away from the common image of the rebellious Sex Pistols. It is not surprising that he soon clashed with Johnny Rotten. Matlock left the band after the release of the debut album, but his influence is indelible.
