Jan Verheyen - The best of the worst

Fri, 12 Mar 2027 · 20:00
OC De Kwelle, Alveringem
€18–20
Director and film freak Jan Verheyen is promoting after the successful lecture ‘Lights! Camera! Action! 100 years of film history in 100 minutes’ to a real performance. In ‘Het Beste Van Het Slechtste’, he takes the spectators on a sometimes hilarious and always wonderful journey through the most spectacular, bizarre, and downright silly failures in film history. A singing James Bond, breasts as deadly weapons, disabled kung-fu killers, an all-midget western, and a Koreaanse King Kong: you have to see it not to believe it. Don't forget to close your mouth, which has fallen open in amazement, after the performance and have your torn laugh muscles repaired by reconstructive surgery (not included in the admission price). Bert Gabriëls is a stand-up comedian from Antwerp. He does not shy away from the difficult themes of today. He looks at them with an open mind; climate, social media, sustainability, the busy work life, international communication, digitalization… Bert touches sensitive chords, but also offers solutions that make everyone happy. In a funny and warm way, he searches together with the audience for the key to Het Geluk. Whatever that may mean! Bert Gabriëls knows what he is talking about: besides being a theater director, he is also a lawyer, studied philosophy, and worked for years as a lawyer for the Dienst Vreemdelingenzaken, among other things. He made numerous television programs. For example, from 2009 he presented “Zonde van de Zendtijd” (Canvas, VPRO, Ned 3) together with Henk Rijckaert and in 2015 he went to Iraq for the program ‘Terug naar Eigen Land” with a number of well-known Flemings to follow the route that refugees take on their way to Europe. As a stand-up comedian, he is coming to ‘warm up’ his new show in Stavele!
