In Commentaar In January 2022, Kane Parsons started uploading a video series at the age of seventeen, titled Backrooms, on his YouTube channel. The concept of Backrooms originated on internet forums and is based on the aesthetics of the liminal space, a vast, extra-dimensional series of empty rooms. The viral success of the series meant that just a year later, a film adaptation, directed by Parsons and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, was already announced. Parsons is thus the youngest director ever of an A24 feature film, with big names like James Wan (Saw) and Osgood Perkins (Longlegs) attached as producers.
