Langs de Doorniksewijk: from Faubourg to Champs-Elysées

Kortrijk originated along a Roman road from Bruges to Tournai. In the 18th century, it was straightened into a paved road along which stately mansions, manors, and castles were built, the Faubourg de Tournai. Today, the Doorniksewijk is the most important connection between the center and the south of Kortrijk. An ambitious master plan was drawn up for this traffic axis: it was meant to become the Champs-Elysées van Kortrijk. Aiming too high or not?
