In MALAM / NIGHT, Grace Tjang plays with the night as a place of memory and imagination. Inspired by Wayang (Javanese shadow play) and her ancestors, she creates a dreamy installation in which light, shadow and forms from nature flow together. Digging ever deeper into the layers of the night, she honors her history, the stories of her parents, grandparents, ancestors. Looking at plants – their structures, growth and decay – becomes a language of its own that makes the transience of nature and history visible.
Voor Zomer van Antwerpen expands Grace Tjang the installation and she creates a poetic garden with a gruesome prediction, where she questions the cycles of nature.
During the day you can experience Malam as an intimate, sensory installation for free.
In the evening, Grace invites you to a fascinating performance between light and shadow.
