Het Turfven got a new look over the past year. During this new guided walk of 5.5 km, guides Filip, Jack, and Jos head from visitor center De Wulp towards Turfven, a remote and special part of the Hageven.
Along the way, we walk through a varied landscape with ponds, fields, grasslands, forest, the Dommel valley, and even a bit of built-up environment. Those contrasts help tell the story of how this landscape changed over the centuries. The guides explain how the vast heath that once lay here gradually gave way to the landscape we know today.
At the Turfven, we look at how the interventions of the past year have changed the landscape and how this part of the Hageven is developing further. We also dive into the history of the peat and the peat extraction that gave the fen its name.
A varied walk for everyone who wants to get to know the Hageven from a different angle and is curious about the changes that took place here over the past year.
