A motley crew finds itself cut off from the world, back to nature. The five campers, armed with anti-insect spray, soon lose their grip on reality. Illusions get the better of sober reason and the impetuous nature shows its boundlessness. A megalomaniac monster approaches them. The camping trip degenerates into a splashing bloodbath. Leirens & Storms draw for their new production on their love for grotesque kitsch and the unbelievable (and yet poignant) acting style from horror films. ‘Marshmallow BBQ‘ is a hallucinatory comic drama in horrifying English that asks what makes danger so attractive. Who and what are our monsters? And can you sympathize with monsters? How can staged fear divide, but also connect and unite? Leirens & Storms investigate the absurd in both the comic and the dark. ‘Marshmallow BBQ’ is their fifth collaboration. Previously they made together Krocht (2014), Another One (2017 - Circuit X and Total Theatre Award), Happy Hour (2019) and Folks & Fools (2022). For the first time in their collaboration, Maxim and Lobke invite three extra players: Marjan De Schutter, Maliqa Fye and Emma Browaeys. The light design of Geert Vanoorlé takes the form of an extra player. “The absurd brings the strangest things together.
