For Voor Philippe Herreweghe, Bach is not a repertoire, but a lifelong practice. For decades, he has returned to this unsurpassed music, deepened, refined, and rethought it, again and again. As conductor emeritus of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and one of the most authoritative Bach interpreters of our time, he leads a complete Bach program that draws strength from concentration, clarity, and inner peace. The orchestral suites are monumental and then again festive and cheerful. In the cantata Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut, Bach questions the soul of man, burdened by sins and doubt. Oboe and violin then enter into dialogue in true sublime Baroque style. In this concerto, musicians from the orchestra itself shine in the solo role. Herreweghe conducts this music with the naturalness of someone who does not interpret it, but lives it. Bach sounds here as direction, as support, as the core of existence.
