At the crossroads of different worlds
BETON was born in skateparks, places of leisure and life filled with the thrill of sliding. And what better place than the Ursulines Skatepark, at a mere stone’s throw from Les Brigittines, to discover this show for the first time, at the crossroads of the worlds of skateboarding, breakdancing and contemporary dance?
Choreographer Julien Carlier actually belongs to all three worlds, with their established codes and complex figures. With his dancers from all walks of life, he deconstructs, transcends and creates images that suggest the skate park as an essential space in his performance: the dance is imbued with the life and particularities of this place so familiar to local residents and skaters.
So, between passing trains, the laughter of children and the bells of Notre-Dame de la Chapelle, this is a surprising show to discover as night falls, comfortably seated between the bowl, the bank and the inclined plane.
